People are buying slices of Tesla on the blockchain at 3am, and Nvidia is NOT happy about it

Tokenised stocks just hit a record $3.8 billion, up 590% this year. Here's the web3 trend that's got Wall Street, and some very angry companies, talking.

Remember when web3 meant ugly monkey pictures selling for the price of a house in DHA?

Yeah. Web3 has moved on. It’s not about monkeys anymore.

It’s about stocks. Real ones. Apple, Tesla, Nvidia. Chopped into little digital tokens you can trade on a blockchain, at any hour, from your phone.

And it’s blowing up.

The numbers are kind of mad

  • $3.8 billion: that’s how much tokenised stock is now out there on blockchains, a record, according to The Kobeissi Letter.
  • Up 590% this year. Not a typo.
  • 10 weeks in a row of new all-time highs.

Why is everyone suddenly doing this?

Because the stock market sleeps and the blockchain doesn’t.

Normal US stock markets close in the evening and shut on weekends. Tokenised stocks trade 24/7. And people LOVE that:

  • About 70% of tokenised stock trading on Jupiter, a big Solana app, happens outside normal market hours.
  • On BNB Chain it’s over 70%. On Solana overall it’s 63%.

Basically, everyone’s trading Apple at 3am like it’s a late-night chai run.

Wall Street wants in too

This isn’t just crypto bros anymore:

  • The New York Stock Exchange is building a platform for 24/7 trading of tokenised US stocks and ETFs. It still needs regulators to sign off.
  • Robinhood’s CEO is calling it the start of a “tokenisation supercycle”.
  • In Hong Kong, HSBC launched a Hong Kong dollar stablecoin on 23 October that already has 50,000 users. Banks there are now testing 24/7 settlement for tokenised government debt.

Plot twist: some companies are FURIOUS

The exchange OKX started listing tokenised versions of big company shares. Companies got 30 days to say no.

50 companies said no. Nvidia, Costco and Nike are among them. Apple, Amazon and Tesla were still deciding, with their windows closing in November.

Imagine waking up to find someone selling slices of your company on an app you never agreed to. That’s roughly how they feel.

So can I buy this from Pakistan?

Hold your horses, bhai.

  • Most of these platforms are not licensed in Pakistan. Under the Virtual Assets Act, crypto services for Pakistanis need a PVARA licence.
  • A tokenised share often isn’t the same as owning the real share. You might not get voting rights, and you depend on whoever issued the token actually holding the stock.
  • Research firm Grayscale points to the risks: unclear rules, trading spread thin across different apps, and those ownership differences.

The tech is real. The hype is real. Your rights as a token holder? Read the small print.
